St. Mary Parish Sheriff Gary Driskell announced on May 6 that deputies responded to 60 complaints and made several arrests over the previous day.

The report outlines two major incidents involving aggravated assault and attacks on law enforcement officers. These cases are significant as they involve threats to public safety and direct confrontations with law enforcement.

In the first case, Shane Glen King, age 49 of Franklin, Louisiana, was arrested at approximately 6:05 p.m. for aggravated assault with a firearm, resisting arrest or officer, and threatening a public official. Deputies responded to a complaint that an individual had discharged a firearm while leaving a residence on Lake Road in Centerville. Using vehicle and suspect descriptions provided by the complainant, deputies located King’s vehicle shortly after on Highway 87 in Franklin. King was taken into custody without further incident during a traffic stop and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. His bail was set at $155,000.

In another incident reported by the Narcotics Section, Bradley Lemoine, age 32 of Berwick, Louisiana, was arrested at about 6:47 p.m. He faces charges including simple battery; seven counts of aggravated assault upon a police officer; resisting an officer; and two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. At around 4:14 p.m., Berwick Police Department officers responded to Tournament Boulevard for a disturbance call where Lemoine allegedly commanded his dogs to attack arriving officers. One dog was shot by an officer after it attempted to bite him but survived following treatment at an animal hospital; the second dog was safely captured.

Detectives from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office were called in by Berwick Police Department to investigate further after Lemoine’s arrest at the scene following what is described as a dispute between Lemoine and a family member.

Public Information Officer Lt. David Spencer provided details about both incidents.
