Fewer students enrolled in Vermilion Parish’s only school district in 2021-22 school year

The only school district in Vermilion Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 9,388 students in the halls of Vermilion Parish School District schools, 2.1% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Vermilion Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 70.1% of the Vermilion Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Vermilion Parish School District has a main office in Abbeville and is the only school district within Vermilion Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.
