There were 16 American Indian students enrolled in Vermilion Parish schools in the 2023-24 school year, 6.7% more than the previous year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Data showed that Vermilion Parish welcomed 10,179 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.2% of the student body to be the second least represented ethnicity in the parish.

Among the 22 schools within the parish, Indian Bayou Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2023-24 school year, with a total of three students.

Louisiana's educational performance is among the lowest in the nation, according to a WalletHub analysis. The state was ranked 47th overall, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
